Bifold Door Questions
What is a bifold door?
A bifold door has two hinged panels that fold against each other when opened — accordion-style. They mount on a track at the top of the opening and are the most popular choice for closets, pantries, and laundry rooms because they provide full access to the opening without taking up floor space.
What size bifold door do I need?
Bifold doors are sized by the total opening width. A 24" bifold has two 12" panels for a narrow closet. A 36" bifold has two 18" panels for a standard closet. For wider openings (48"–72"), use two bifold sets — one for each side of the opening.
Can I replace a bifold with a regular door?
Yes, but the opening may need adjustment. Standard bifold openings are wider than single-door openings. You can install a single hinged door and frame up the extra width, or use a barn door that covers the full opening. Measure your rough opening before choosing a replacement.
