How do I measure for a pre-hung door?
Measure the rough opening — the framed hole in the wall. Standard rough openings are 2" wider and 2" taller than the door size. For a 30" x 80" pre-hung door, you need a rough opening of approximately 32" x 82". Always measure width at the top and bottom, and height on both sides, as openings can be slightly out of square.
Left-hand vs right-hand — how do I tell?
Stand facing the door from the side it opens toward you. If the hinges are on your left, it's a left-hand door. If hinges are on your right, it's right-hand. When ordering pre-hung, getting the swing direction correct is critical — the frame is pre-built for that specific orientation.
