Sliding Door Questions

What is a sliding interior door?
A sliding interior door moves horizontally along a track rather than swinging on hinges. Bypass sliding doors use two panels on parallel tracks — one slides behind the other. They're the standard choice for wide closet openings and as room dividers in tight spaces.
Sliding vs bifold — which saves more space?
Both save space compared to hinged doors. Sliding (bypass) doors stack behind each other, so you can only access half the opening at a time. Bifold doors fold against one side, giving you access to nearly the full opening. Choose sliding for clean, minimal look; choose bifold for full access to closet contents.
What widths work for sliding doors?
Sliding doors work best for openings 48" to 72" wide. For a standard 48" closet opening, you'd use two 24" door panels. For a 60" opening, two 30" panels. The panels overlap by a few inches on the track, so the combined panel width is slightly wider than the opening.
